Marathon Woman: Kathrine Switzer, http://kathrineswitzer.com

Every time I see the photos of Kathrine Switzer running bravely in full sweats and Adidas flats, fighting off the Boston Marathon race director, I get chills. She is the reason our company exists in the world. She ran, so we run. And we are #empoweredbyrunning because of her. 50 years ago, in 1967 #261, participated in what was an all-male’s race, fearlessly. Impressed? She’s also running it today at age 70!

Kathrine’s first marathon was run at age 20 and at 64 she ran the Berlin Marathon, showing that age is not always a barrier to physical accomplishment. She is an accomplished woman, athlete, and visionary. Iconic athlete, sports and social advocate, author, and Emmy award-winning television commentator, She was the first woman to officially enter and run the Boston Marathon. She has been honored widely for her achievements, most recently being inducted into the USA National Women’s Hall of Fame for creating positive social change. She runs 261 Fearless, her non-profit for health and wellness. She has forever changed the face of running, for every single woman on this earth. With all our hearts, thank you!
