Strength Programs

Running Analysis:

We offer a one hour comprehensive biomechanical Running Analysis to evaluate your movement patterns and stride using video analysis. Real-time results help us create a tailored plan to increase efficiency and decrease injury. 

Along with filming your gait, we collect Optogait Data which provides us with personalized information about your:

  • Cadence
  • Flight time
  • Form
  • Ground contact time (broken down into initial contact, foot flat, propulsive phase)
  • Side to side asymmetries (left vs. right leg)
  • Stride angle (related to IT Band syndrome risk)
  • Stride length

This information assists us in developing a custom plan for you as well as injury prevention. 

With this 1 hr service, you receive:

  • Biomechanical analysis and cueing to improve form
  • Videos of "before" and "after" sent to your email
  • Assessment of strength and range of motion
  • A specific plan to correct these imbalances
  • A print out of your optogait data
  • A tailored running plan
  • Answers to questions regarding; shoes, orthotics, training, nutrition, and any other running-related topics.

RUNNING COACHING

Chris Forti, Running Coach:

Chris grew up just outside of Boston where he competed at the high school and collegiate level. In Boston, he coached athletes with varying objectives - from youth to high school to adults - and went so far as to marry his favorite athlete. Moving to NYC in 2013, he joined the Dashing Whippets and, in 2016, was named team coach. He is a certified coach via USATF (Level 1) and RRCA and certified USATF official working meets from youth to professional. He works at Siggi's yogurt in New York City as a demand planner and can be found playing "catch the red laser dot" with his favorite kitty, post-run. He calls himself "40" because "Forti" is evidently too many typeface characters to handle and can be found on Facebook, Twitter (@chris40runs), and Instagram (@chris40runs) 


Sports Nutrition

Tara Mardigan, MS, MPH, RD/N, Sports Nutritionist:

Tara is a NYC-based nutritionist, also known as The Plate Coach. She works with athletes and clients through her virtual practice, where her work is focused on lifestyle modification for optimal health and performance. Tara guides her clients to seamlessly integrate better food choices into their busy lives. In addition to her nutrition coaching practice, she consults with various sports teams, companies, schools and restaurants for workshops, employee wellness programs and menu/recipe development. She is the co-author of
Real Fit Kitchen, a cookbook for athletes, fitness enthusiasts and weekend warriors. The Plate Coach is a firm believer that 'good for you should taste good, too.' 


PERFORMANCE SPECIALIST

Greg Laraia, ATC:

Gregory Laraia ATC is an Athletic Trainer and running consultant at NY Custom PT & Performance Center. Greg graduated from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania where he was a student athlete competing all four years on the Cross Country and Track teams. During his time at East Stroudsburg Greg interned in a variety of settings from middle school all the way up to division 1 collegiate athletics performing injury assessments, rehabilitation exercises and therapeutic modalities to all types of athletes. He also has experience working with patients from an orthopedic outpatient Physical Therapy clinic where he educated patients on proper rehabilitation techniques. Greg is also FMT Rocktape Certified, a competitive runner in the New York area as well as a running coach with clients of all ages. With a passion for helping patients and athletes alike, Greg joins NY Custom PT and Performance Center providing the highest quality care to help patients reach their goals.
