At Custom Performance, we’re always looking for ways to provide our patients with the best tools to support their recovery and performance. That’s why we’re excited to introduce the Boost 3 Microgravity Treadmill, the newest addition to our rehabilitation and sports performance services.
Many of our patients know us for our AlterG® anti-gravity treadmill. While we’ve recently transitioned to the Boost 3, the purpose remains the same: helping people walk and run with less stress on their bodies while recovering from injury, returning to sport, building back confidence, and improving overall athletic performance.
Developed by the founders of AlterG, the Boost 3 represents the next generation of body-weight support treadmill technology, giving patients a safe and effective way to stay active throughout the rehabilitation process.

What Is the Boost 3 Microgravity Treadmill?
The Boost 3 is a body-weight support treadmill that uses air pressure technology to reduce the amount of weight your legs experience while walking or running. Depending on your rehabilitation goals, the treadmill can reduce your effective body weight by up to 80%, allowing you to move comfortably with significantly less impact.
This makes it possible to begin walking or running earlier than you might on a traditional treadmill, while still protecting healing tissues and minimizing pain.
Unlike simply slowing down or shortening your workout, body-weight support allows you to maintain a more natural walking or running pattern while decreasing the load placed on your joints, muscles, and bones.
Who Can Benefit from the Boost 3?
The Boost 3 is an excellent tool for a wide range of patients and athletes, including those recovering from:
- ACL reconstruction
- Meniscus surgery
- Hip, knee, ankle, or foot injuries
- Stress fractures
- Tendon injuries
- Running-related overuse injuries
- Joint pain or arthritis
It’s also a valuable option for runners beginning a return-to-run program, athletes maintaining fitness during recovery, and individuals who simply want a lower-impact way to exercise.
Why Body-Weight Support Matters
One of the biggest challenges after an injury is finding the right balance between protecting healing tissues and gradually returning to activity. Too much impact too soon can delay recovery. Waiting too long to reintroduce movement can also slow progress.
Body-weight support treadmill training helps bridge that gap by allowing patients to gradually increase load over time. Your physical therapist can adjust the amount of support based on your symptoms, healing timeline, and functional goals, creating a progression that’s individualized to your recovery.

Why Boost 3?
The AlterG helped establish body-weight support treadmill technology as an important tool in rehabilitation, and we’ve seen firsthand how valuable it can be for our patients. The Boost 3 continues that same approach while bringing updated technology from the founders of AlterG. We chose the Boost 3 because it aligns with our commitment to providing evidence-based rehabilitation and giving our patients access to the latest tools and technology available.
Specific Features of the Boost 3 Include:
- Adjustable incline settings to support progressive rehabilitation and performance training
- Variable speed controls for walking, jogging, and running at every stage of recovery
- Backward walking capability to target different muscle groups and enhance rehabilitation protocols
- Smartwatch connectivity for real-time heart rate monitoring during exercise
- Precise body-weight support adjustments to reduce effective body weight while maintaining a natural walking or running gait
- Smooth, low-impact training environment designed to minimize stress on joints and healing tissues
