SARA LEMESH
I learned that I’m much stronger than I previously thought! 2020 brought so many challenges, both physical and emotional. The quarantine forced me to reevaluate my goals and priorities while also motivating me to take my running to the next level.
After struggling with feelings of isolation in the spring of 2020, I joined a running group (Gotham City Runners) in the summer and ran long distances while exploring NYC and making new friends. I moved to Manhattan in the fall of 2019 from Northern California and didn’t realize how much time I need outside to feel grounded and calm.
Unfortunately, I injured my left foot last fall amidst my renewed zeal and needed to take six weeks off running. The plus side, however, is that I became even closer with runners in GCR who supported me during my recovery. I also discovered other ways to take care of my health and even learned about strength training workouts you can do while wearing a boot! I’m making a full recovery and feel so much stronger than I was a year ago. This strength comes from a place of gratitude and an appreciation for my health, my body’s ability to heal, and support from others.
