I LOVE anything with pockets. Any article of clothing with a pocket gets me excited (with the exception of cargo shorts), so you can imagine how I was thrilled to try out Lululemon’s new Fast and Free 6″ shorts on my long run.
I was skeptical at first; spandex shorts seem to always ride up when I run in them, but these stayed perfectly in place, even with body glide all over my thighs. I didn’t have to adjust them once through 16 miles. They also have an elastic drawcord at the waist if you need to tighten them a bit, but I found they fit pretty true to size. The fabric is lightweight, sweat-wicking, and quick-drying; super helpful on a hot summer day.
That alone makes the shorts great, but let’s get back to the pockets. They have 5(!) pockets to hold all your running essentials. The two bigger ones on the side can comfortably hold numerous Science and Sport gels (the big ones) and your phone. There’s also a back pocket that is perfectly phone-sized or a good place to stash a metro card or a credit card and ID, in case you cut your run short for any reason or get hungry along with way. In the waistband are two smaller pockets, which are great for keys, chapstick, and more run fuel needs: salt tabs, smaller gels, chews, etc.
I’m not particularly brand loyal when it comes to running gear. If it gets the job done and is a good price, I’m happy with it. But when I find something I love, I’m probably going to buy them in every available color… or let’s be real, I’m a New Yorker, I’ll just buy 5 pairs in black.
