The Perfect Shoe for You

BY GREG LARAIA (ATC)

We all love shoes and want to have the coolest ones that look the best. Right?! Isn’t that how we all buy shoes? Isn’t that how it works? The coolest and fastest looking shoe must be the best one!

Unfortunately, that isn’t usually the case. That running shoe market is very competitive with companies constantly battling for the top spot. The good news is that competition drives innovation, so there are tons of brands out there creating great shoes. Running shoes come in all shapes and sizes, you have your track spikes, trail shoes, max cushion, minimal cushion, stability, racing flats, lightweight trainers, marathon shoes, the list goes on. You name it, there is probably a shoe for it.

One of the most common questions we get at Custom Performance is what shoe should I get. If we could guarantee that a specific shoe will be perfect for you we would just hand them out, but we can’t make that guarantee! Running shoes come in all shapes and sizes: you have your track spikes, trail shoes, max cushion, minimal cushion, stability, racing flats, lightweight trainers, marathon shoes…and the list goes on. You name it, there is probably a shoe for it.

So first we have to look at your goals and what type of running you will be doing. Then we can point you in the right direction.

This is where I like to have some fun. I love trying different shoes, so my biggest tip is for you to do the same. If you are looking for an everyday trainer, go to your local running store and try on a few different brands and styles. Take them for a test run out in front of the store on the sidewalk. If you are looking for a racing shoe, try on a few different ones and pick the one that fits the best. Because there are so many options, you can have fun looking for shoes and take the time to try out different brands to see which one fits your foot the best.

Finding your perfect shoe requires you to go out and explore the options. You can’t make a smart choice based on a commercial or what everyone else is wearing. The technology in the different brands today is amazing but different! So try them out. Enjoy the adventure of finding the perfect shoe for you.
